In the unfolding saga of the Falling Frontier, the game developer Stutter Fox Studios, along with one of my favourite publishers Hooded Horse, has a pleasant surprise in store for their fans. Revealed on May 29, 2023, the companies announced a significant overhaul of Falling Frontier’s combat mechanics along with an all-new design for the fan-adored destroyer, the Hano. This news burst onto the scene alongside a thrilling trailer featuring never-before-seen gameplay.
The trailer begins with a continuation of the story presented in the Sukula Mining Barge reveal trailer (below in case you missed it). Soon after, viewers are catapulted into an intense face-off between Martian and Titan-pattern Hano destroyers near the ethereal rings of Saturn. This dramatic scene highlights a plethora of changes introduced with the recent combat rework.
For the sharp-eyed fans, the new features, set to elevate the gaming experience, include:
- Faction variants of the new Hano model
- Improved ship movement mechanics
- A more advanced combat model, featuring missile tracking and countermeasures
- Enhanced damage model
- Tactical slow-motion feature
- A free-range orbital camera for unhindered viewing
- An updated UI for managing point-defense cannons
The Hano’s final form carries forward the exceptional work started by artist Aleksandre Lortkipanidze, who recently teamed up with Stutter Fox Studios to design new and reworked ship models to further enrich the visual identity of Falling Frontier. Keep your eyes peeled for the arrival of fresh frigate models with faction variants later this year, another exciting project on Aleksandre’s list.
Falling Frontier is slated for an early access release on PC, with availability through Steam, GOG *, and the Epic Games Store *.
Hooded Horse, my current favourite publisher of strategic and tactical games, has seen substantial growth since its inception in 2019, with its portfolio now boasting 21 games including community favourite Old World.
