Gather around gamers and let me tell you about the legend that’s making a comeback this summer. That’s right, the Lee brothers are returning to our screens in Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, an all-new co-operative beat ’em up featuring tag team duos, roguelite elements, and oodles of replayability. Thanks to Modus Games and developer Secret Base who are breathing new life into this iconic franchise!
Set in a post-apocalyptic New York City, Billy and Jimmy Lee are on a mission to take back their city from the grip of criminal gangs. And they’re not alone this time – our favourite duo is joined by Marian, who’s now a badass, firearm-wielding ranged fighter, and newcomer Uncle Matin, a riot-shield-wielding powerhouse. With 13 unique playable characters and two-player local co-op, you and your mates can have a blast cleaning up the mean streets together.
The game offers endless playthrough possibilities with its dynamic mission select function. The order in which you choose your missions affects the mission length, number of enemies, and overall difficulty. Cash in on Special KOs, perform Crowd Control moves for health boosts, and unlock powerful upgrades for your characters. If you’re defeated, don’t worry! Convert any remaining cash into tokens to unlock extra characters and bonuses between sessions.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons stays true to the series’ classic aesthetic, featuring refreshed pixel art visuals, updated-yet-faithful character appearances, and a soundtrack that’ll get you pumped for the next fight. And keep an eye out for online co-op, which is planned as a post-launch update later this year.
Now it’s your turn! What are your thoughts on the return of the Double Dragon twins? Are you excited for the new features and characters?
