Terra Memoria Unveils a Cozy Pixel-Adventure!

La Moutarde and Dear Villagers Partner to Craft a Retro Turn-Based RPG for Modern Platforms.

Great news for lovers of retro-styled RPGs from the gaming world that we can’t wait to share with you. The indie developer La Moutarde, in collaboration with Dear Villagers, has revealed their upcoming retro RPG game, “Terra Memoria”. Prepare yourselves for a fantastic voyage around the globe, alongside a band of merry friends, filled with puzzles, crafting, building, and all the excitement of turn-based combat.

Scheduled for release on the PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms later this year, Terra Memoria promises an exploration game boasting retro vibes made by and for RPG enthusiasts.

Terra Memoria | Announcement trailer

Terra Memoria invites players into a delightful world, a blend of 3D graphics and pixel art, traversing multiple countries brimming with an intriguing blend of exploration and creativity. The world is threatened by a shortage of magic crystals and the sudden awakening of ancient robots, compelling six new friends to embark on an adventurous investigation across the delightful and snug realm of Terra.

The game’s combat system is turn-based, allowing each party member, under your control, to contribute their unique skills to the combat encounters. However, battles aren’t the only challenge you’ll face in Terra Memoria. The game has a unique building system for you to master. This tool will enable you to construct a variety of objects and solve environmental puzzles, almost like having a map editor at your fingertips to shape the world and rebuild destroyed cities.

“With Terra Memoria we wanted to create a timeless adventure in the style of a classic RPG that offers more modern twists on the genre, like building, cooking, and crafting,” said François Bertrand, Game Director at La Moutarde. “At the end of the day though, Terra Memoria is an ode to the road trip, with a focus on the bond between friends and found family, as they explore unfamiliar lands together.”

As you journey through the different countries in Terra Memoria, you’ll depend on regional guides for information on new recipes, key characters, essential clues for your investigation, and regional specialties. The key to a successful journey lies in understanding the local customs and leveraging them to your advantage.

Terra Memoria is a love letter to classic RPGs with its pixel art and turn-based combat, while the HEXA system and lively soundtrack give it a contemporary flair,” said Guillaume Jamet, Head of Publishing for Dear Villagers. “It offers a touch of nostalgia that reminds players of their favorite  90’s RPGs, but will also appeal to new generations who have recently gotten into the genre with games like Octopath Traveler, Eiyuden Chronicle, or Suikoden. This mix of retro and modern sensibilities make Terra Memoria feel utterly timeless!”
