Renowned strategy game publisher, Slitherine, announced on May 30, 2023, the much-anticipated launch of “Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance” on the Steam platform in Winter 2023. For the fans of strategic gameplay and the Terminator franchise, this new real-time strategy (RTS) game could be a dream come true.
“Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance” is set in a grim future ravaged by war, where human survivors pit their will against the overwhelmingly powerful synthetic intelligent machine network, Legion. Yet, the game suggests that the greatest threat may not lie with the machines, but rather with other human survivor groups, adding a riveting layer of complexity to the plot.
Players will have the opportunity to command armies, aligning themselves with one of three factions available at launch: Founders, Legion, or Resistance. These roles are not merely about choosing sides, as they offer a unique chance to employ a blend of near-future and machine-tech weaponry in engaging tactical battles.
Both a captivating single-player campaign with expansive strategic maps and various multiplayer modes promise hours of thrilling gameplay. What’s more, player decisions and alliances made throughout the game will echo in subsequent missions, potentially securing valuable intel, weaponry, or allies for future conflicts.
In a first look at new gameplay during Slitherine’s live announcement, a tattered force of Founders was shown on the run from Legion machines, interacting with other groups of human survivors. Not only does the player have the choice to ally or not, but joining forces with certain groups can also yield distinct benefits.
In the mission showcased, targeting a steady flow of Legion convoys could provide fruitful for resistance fighters. Besides, successfully retrieving a downed pilot could grant crucial air support in later missions. The appearance of a new human group – the Integrators – represents a potential reservoir of additional soldiers for the Founders or, conversely, a new adversary to face. Furthermore, the success of the mission could re-establish radio contact with the Founders’ command centre, although this newfound connection might bring some unexpected surprises.
