As the sun set on the west coast yesterday, Riot Games unveiled a major shakeup to their competitive sensation, Teamfight Tactics. The upcoming update, titled ‘Teamfight Tactics: Runeterra Reforged’, promises players an invigorating reimagining of the strategy title, enabling them to interact with the Runeterra universe in an entirely new way.
In the heart of Los Angeles, Riot Games detailed their innovative plan for infusing the free-for-all strategy game with fresh strategic layers and player freedoms. The key message: Teamfight Tactics is all about player choice, and ‘Runeterra Reforged’ intends to broaden those horizons further.
To start, the new ‘Legends’ system revolutionises the pre-draft phase. This system allows players to select a preferred playstyle, ensuring they can lean into their favourite strategy right from the get-go. While this doesn’t fundamentally change the adaptable nature of Teamfight Tactics, it certainly enriches the level of control players wield over their game.
Ever since the birth of League of Legends, the fictional world of Runeterra has captured the imaginations of gamers worldwide. Whether it be through the battlegrounds of League or the hit Netflix series, Arcane, fans have developed favourite regions within this rich landscape. ‘Runeterra Reforged’ caters to this by offering players a chance to select a specific region to Portal to at the beginning of the game. Each region offers its unique gameplay elements, maintaining the refreshing unpredictability of Teamfight Tactics.
Eager gamers can experience this revamp from May 31st on the Public Beta Environment, with the full release scheduled for June 14th. As always, Teamfight Tactics: Runeterra Reforged remains entirely free to play, boasting cross-play, cross-progression, and co-op across PC, iOS, and Android.
In addition to the update, Riot Games also announced a thrilling leap for Teamfight Tactics esports. After five global championships in four years, the game is set to host its first-ever global LAN event, right in the heart of Las Vegas at the legendary MGM Grand. The event is scheduled for December 8 to 10. Keen competitors, keep your eyes peeled for details on how to secure a pass, with priority given to top performers in the Runeterra Reforged ranked ladder.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with Teamfight Tactics, it’s an auto battler where players manoeuvre LoL champions in various formations across a grid-shaped board, battling it out in a last-player-standing style match, it’s held its ground as the leading game in its category since its 2019 launch.
