SteelSeries have unveiled three new additions to their award-winning Aerox family of gaming mice the Aerox 5, Aerox 5 Wireless and the Aerox 9 Wireless bringing their brand of ultra-lightweight design first seen in the Aerox 3 to every style of gamer.
SteelSeries say less weight equates to speed and endurance. Speed and endurance equate to wins. Whatever the game, players want an edge, the ability to play better, and the ability to win. Whether they’re playing competitively online or trying to advance past the last boss of a Souls game for the 17th time, the ultra-lightweight Aerox line of mice gives gamers the ability to move quicker, more precisely, and with less fatigue so they can maintain their level of gameplay no matter how long the gaming session.
From shortcuts and macros for Fortnite or League of Legends to the synced RGB lighting for your battlestation, Steelseries say the new lineup of Aerox mice can be customized to suit any style of play or environment.
So here’s our first look at the details from their press release and our initial thoughts, we have one of each on the way to us and we’ll be sharing our thoughts when they arrive and making them available to our community reviewers.
SteelSeries Aerox 5

The Aerox 5 is what SteelSeries claim is the lightest multi-genre mouse on the planet which registers on the scales at a featherlight 66g, with 9 programmable buttons, the Aerox 5 provides versatility and the ability to adapt to whatever game or genre you are playing in an instant.
The TrueMove Air sensor and 100% Virgin Grade PTFE feet ensure that every swipe is effortless and tracked with pinpoint accuracy, while SteelSeries Golden Micro IP54 switches mean every shot is registered exactly as a player wants it to be. Brilliant PrismSync Lighting provides 3 RGB zones and a water-resistant AquaBarrier™ provides an IP54 safety rating – providing peace of mind from spills and accidents.
I must admit the additional programmable buttons do appeal to me for ARMA and CoD Warzone and they seem to be in the right places for the way I use my mouse so I could be tempted to try this out for my current heavyweight G403 that’s my current main daily driver.

SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless

SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless

The Aerox 9 Wireless is what SteelSeries describe as the Ultimate MOBA and MMO mouse which they claim is bringing the first true innovation to the MMO and MOBA genre in years, the Aerox 9 Wireless weighs just 89g, while giving users access to 12 programmable thumb buttons. For context the Razer Naga Pro weighs in at 117g.
The Aerox 9 Wireless utilises SteelSeries Quantum 2.0 Wireless and Bluetooth for connectivity, their next-gen Golden Micro IP54 Switches (rated for 80M clicks which they say is 3x the durability found in other gaming mice), a TrueMove Air gaming sensor, and IP54 rated AquaBarrier™ protection. To keep players cable-free for longer Steelseries say the Aerox 9 Wireless delivers up to 180 hours of battery life, with fast recharging giving gamers forty plus hours charge in just 15 minutes.
This seems like a beast of a mouse and I’m really interested to see what our MOBA playing community reviewers make of it and it’s eighteen programmable mouse buttons. The Aerox 9 Wireless is definitely towards the very top of the premium end of gaming mice in terms of pricing but it certainly brings a range of interesting features and something new to the space.

So when will Gaming.Buzz review SteelSeries latest Aerox Mice?
For anyone that doesn’t know our policy is to buy our review hardware as consumers and we already have (my wallet was screaming a little with all of these) and as soon as we have them in we’ll take a look and share our first impressions. We’ll be making all of these mice available to our community reviewers, who typically use them for 30-90 days before giving their review so they can provide thoughts on using them as daily drivers and got past any initial “shiny stuff” honeymoon period so we’ll keep you posted on how they get on.
What Do You Think?
I’m really interested to hear what you think of these latest releases from SteelSeries and whether there’s a mouse here that will tempt you away from your current daily driver. These do seem to be bringing something new to MOBA mice in particular, which is a space that seemed to be struggling for a while but now has releases on both ends of the budget scale.
