If you’re a fan of indie visual novels, then you might want to check out “Scar of the Doll,” which was just released on Steam by Child-Dream. This game is considered a pioneering work from 1998, and it’s been fully remade after 24 years. The game is currently available on Steam with a discount of 34% off the MRSP until May 13th to celebrate the release.
“Scar of the Doll” gained popularity in Japan and was a hot topic of discussion, including a feature in a mystery magazine, becoming a pioneer in the indie adventure genre. This remake comes with additional content for the second half of the story, including a zapping scenario from different sub-character’s points of view. All graphics, including characters and stills, have been renewed. And the horror elements can be turned on and off, so those who do not like horror can enjoy the game with comfort.
The game’s story is about Asumi Kamijo, the younger sister of a big sister who is studying at a graduate school in Tokyo. The contact with her big sister has been cut off altogether, and Asumi is worried about her big sister’s safety. As she arrives in Tokyo, there are no traces left of her big sister, not in her apartment and not in her laboratory. Asumi is at a loss, but she’s determined to track down her big sister though she has no way of knowing what impending horrors will await her.
Child-Dream has been producing PC games since 1997, mainly RPGs and adventure games with an emphasis on storytelling, which have been a big hit. The company has since become a corporation, and Mista, the representative, is in charge of the scenario for Folklore (PS3).
