In an exciting development for manga and RPG fans alike, Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. has announced the launch of SAND LAND, a thrilling new action RPG. Unveiled at this year’s Summer Game Fest “Kickoff Live” livestream, SAND LAND is derived from the classic manga penned by none other than Akira Toriyama, renowned for masterpieces such as DRAGON BALL™ and DR. SLUMP. The game is being skillfully crafted by ILCA Inc and will be accessible on PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via STEAM®.
Dive into a desert world where both humans and demons suffer from an extreme water shortage. Play as and watch the Fiend Prince, Beelzebub, Sheriff Rao, and demon Thief set off on an adventure in search of a Legendary Spring hidden in the desert. Introducing himself as a “super evil fiend”, Beelzebub has a pure heart like a little boy but has superhuman strength and telepathic abilities. Rao, a small-town sheriff, seeks the aid of demons to save all of Sand Land from the water shortage. Thief, a wise old demon with thieving abilities also accompanies Beelzebub and Rao on their adventure.
Beelzebub, branding himself as a “super evil fiend”, paradoxically possesses a heart as innocent as a little boy’s, accompanied by superhuman strength and telepathic capabilities. Rao, a humble sheriff, turns to the demons in a bid to salvage Sand Land from the devastating water shortage. Thief, a wise old demon with extraordinary thieving skills, also accompanies this unconventional band on their audacious quest.
The game offers a vast world ripe for exploration, featuring a multitude of vehicles for players to traverse the arid landscapes. On-foot adventures are also part of the game, ensuring diverse experiences while uncovering the manifold secrets of SAND LAND. The game promises electrifying vehicular and character combat, enabling players to customise their vehicles with assorted loadouts to tackle obstacles and vanquish formidable foes.
SAND LAND’s narrative is born from the beloved manga created in 2000 by Akira Toriyama. It narrates the tale of Beelzebub, the Fiend Prince, and Rao, a small-town sheriff, who embark on an adventure in search of a hidden water source in a water-starved desert world inhabited by humans and demons. Since its debut, the manga has attained international acclaim, prompting a transmedia project announced in December 2022 to bring this classic manga IP to a broader audience. The initiative started with an anime film co-produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks’ Sunrise Studio, Kamikazedouga Co. Ltd., and ANIMA Inc, culminating in the revealing of the SAND LAND game in June 2023.
