Fans of retro gaming will be thrilled to hear, a remastered edition of the cult classic first-person shooter, Rise of the Triad, is poised for launch. Officially titled “Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition”, the game is set to reunite players with the High-risk United Nations Task-force (H.U.N.T.) on Monday, July 31, 2023.
Brought to life through the combined efforts of original developer and publisher Apogee Entertainment, innovative gaming company New Blood Interactive, and retro gaming specialists Nightdive Studios, the game will be available on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Fervent gamers keen on getting an early glimpse of this classic FPS can look forward to a demo releasing on June 19th as part of Steam Next Fest.
While Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition faithfully recreates the highly influential, genre-defining shooter, it is not a mere remaster. Thanks to Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX engine, the game utilises the original source code, and truly embodies the perfect blend of retro and contemporary gaming. It features smoothly rendered 60+ frames-per-second gameplay, upscaled classic pixelated artwork in 4K resolution, an increased field-of-view, cloud saves, achievements, and more.
Join the H.U.N.T., an elite special forces squad, and delve into the intriguing world of the Triad cult off the California coast. Choose from five operatives, each with unique hit points, speed, and accuracy statistics. Battle your way through five separate campaigns, including new episodes, expansion packs, and never-before-seen Rise of the Triad content from previously-lost beta builds.
Unleash havoc with over-the-top weaponry, like the game-changing dual-wield pistols, heat-seeker missiles, and Firebombs. Go head-to-head with friends or foes alike online, with multiplayer COMM-BAT supporting up to 11 players.
Relive or discover the FPS game that revolutionised the genre in 1994 by introducing verticality. The game offers an all-new level editor, the option to play with the classic original soundscape or the heavy metal 2013 reboot soundtrack, and even the original cheat codes, for those who can recall them!

Slated to cost $19.99 USD upon release, Nightdive Studios will also partner with Limited Run Games for physical versions of the game. There’s a Standard and a Collector’s Edition in the pipeline across multiple platforms.
