Our friends over at Superstatic, the acclaimed Polish game developer, along with Anshar Publishing, have been cooking up something seriously impressive. Today, they’ve dished up a release date for their forthcoming game, Liberté – a deck-building roguelite set bang in the middle of the French Revolution! Mark your calendars, folks, because it’s hitting Steam on May 23rd, 2023.
You’ll be taking on the role of René, a civilian caught up in the heart of the action in a war-torn Paris. As you navigate the twisted alleyways of the city, you’ll be playing a high-stakes game of diplomacy with the city’s four most influential factions. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s a curveball thrown into the mix – a mysterious invader from another dimension, Lady Bliss.
As René, you’ll have to get your hands dirty and collect cards, foster alliances and peel back the layers of truth to discover Lady Bliss’s secrets. “It’s so exciting to finally be able to give gamers a release date for Liberté later this month,” says Kajetan Wyrzykowski, the game’s Narrative Designer. “We think players are going to find both the Parisian setting, and the easy to understand but difficult to master Card system enthralling from day one.”
Liberté isn’t your typical roguelite – it’s got a unique blend of action and deck-building mechanics. The game boasts a whopping 100+ Skills and Talents cards, allowing you to create your very own playstyle. You can go all guns blazing, carve a path with blades and axes, or even smack your enemies with a guitar. How’s that for revolutionary?
You’ll also be able to shape-shift and play as different characters, like Master Hunter Victor, Tribal Warrior Flea, or Revolt Leader Ana. Each character has their unique abilities and perks, adding another layer of strategy to the game. You’ll be facing off against some hefty opponents and the monstrous curses of the Bliss, so prepare accordingly.
The game is steeped in historical flavour, with over 40 hours of dialogue inspired by real French Revolution events, characters, and architecture. Liberté plunges you into a world teetering on the brink of annihilation. Expect body horrors, political manoeuvres, and even attempted assassinations.
Plus, there’s a faction system at play. Support one of the four unique factions to unlock additional rewards. Who will you side with in this tumultuous time?
Liberté will be available on Steam from May 23rd, 2023, for £16.75. Just make sure your PC is up to the task with at least a 2.2 GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, an Nvidia Geforce 960/RX 570 or better, and at least 4GB of disk space.
