Hold on to your controllers, keyboards, and VR headsets because we’ve got some truly colossal news to share. Remember Reus, the delightfully relaxing god sim from Abbey Games that took the gaming world by storm back in 2013? Well, brace yourselves, because after ten long years, the Giants are back! Abbey Games, in partnership with Firesquid, has officially announced the sequel, Reus 2, at Steam’s Tacticon!
Reus, which sold over a million units worldwide, gave players the unique experience of playing as colossal giants shaping planets and guiding humanity towards various destinies. It’s a game that brought a whole new meaning to “playing God”. Now, Abbey Games hopes to draw both old and new players back into this enchanting universe with the release of Reus 2.
“We’re excited to bring Reus 2 to this new era, and show what it can bring to all those who want to create their own perfect world!” say the three founders of Abbey Games, Maarten Wiedenhof, Manuel Kerssemakers & Adriaan Jansen.
Firesquid’s founder and CEO, Anders Larsson, shares their excitement. “This relaxed god game where you can just start another humanity if they misbehave is such a great idea, and Abbey Games have a history of developing great games!”
In Reus 2, expect your giants to do more than simply shape planets. They will also delve into the fate of humanity in the cosmos they’ve crafted. Players can experiment with civilisation, creating multiple planets and observing how different human tribes react to their world. You can also explore strategic synergies within ecosystems, biomes, and between giants. Over time, you’ll discover a plethora of ways to breathe life into your planets, with endless combinations of nature and different rosters of giants.
As humanity evolves, you’ll decide whether to help them uncover their best – or worst – destinies. You can foster and shape human aspirations, or pave a more challenging path. Featuring meta progression and an adaptive experience, it’s up to you to decide what combination of challenging and relaxing gameplay you’d like. If something isn’t to your liking, you can always start a new humanity.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on the return of the Giants in Reus 2. Are you excited for the sequel? What are your favourite memories from the original Reus? Join the conversation in the comments below or pop into our Gaming.Buzz Community Discord to keep the chat going!
