Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara Set Sail with Exceptional Kickstarter Success

Chibig's Summer in Mara spinoff garners monumental support on Kickstarter, with a release date set for this summer.

An incredible feat has been accomplished on Kickstarter, where the campaign for Chibig’s newest game, ‘Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara’, successfully achieved 850% of its original goal just two days before the campaign was due to conclude. A staggering total of over 4000 backers pledged their support to this exciting project, a spinoff from the hit ‘Summer in Mara’.

The campaign initially set a target of €30,000, a goal that was met in less than an hour, surpassing Chibig’s previous record with ‘Mika and the Witch’s Mountain’ last February. This extraordinary achievement places ‘Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara’ in the top five most successful Spanish campaigns ever launched on Kickstarter.

This captivating 3D platform adventure has been a collaborative effort between Chibig, Talpa Games, and Undercoders. Tesura Games also lent their support to the campaign, backing the standard and collector’s physical editions, set to be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of this campaign is its expedited timeline. ‘Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara’ aims for a summer release, meaning Kickstarter pledges can expect to receive their rewards sooner than typically seen in other campaigns.

To the delight of fans, the campaign also revived one of the most popular rewards from the previous game: a colourful figure of characters Koa and Napopo. This decision has sparked a new venture for Chibig, who now plan to create a collection of figures from their games, an idea that the gaming community has met with considerable enthusiasm.

‘Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara’ promises a vibrant and engaging platforming experience, the developers say they are drawing on the best aspects of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker’ and ‘Super Mario 3D World’ to offer something new and exciting. While an exact release date is yet to be announced, the game is confirmed to be available on Steam (PC), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch this summer.

Chibig, the creator of ‘Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara’, is known for their cozy and cute games, offering relaxing adventures set in fantastical, wonder-filled worlds. Since the establishment of the studio in 2018 with their first release ‘Deiland’, Chibig has continued to expand their universe, culminating in the highly anticipated upcoming projects: ‘Ankora: Lost Days’, ‘Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara’, ‘Mika and the Witch’s Mountain’, and ‘Elusive People’.

At the time of writing the Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara Kickstarter campaign still has a little under 54 hours to go if you’d like to back the project and the game is available to wishlist on Steam with a 2023 planned release date listed.

Just a reminder to readers that although backing Kickstarter campaigns can be highly rewarding, our team regularly does, as you get the chance to support creative projects there are also risks involved. One major drawback is that there’s no guarantee the project will succeed or even reach completion. So remember if you do choose to back a campaign you do so at your own risk and don’t back campaigns with money that you cannot afford to lose.
