Just Pretty & Clicky Or Actually Good? – logitech POP Keys Mechanical Wireless Keyboard + Mouse [REVIEW]

Whenever we use a computer, there are a few hardware options that we simply cannot live without. Some of these are a keyboard and mouse, which we use to interact with the computer, write emails, novels, or control a character in a video game.

In this review, I would like to show you the logitech POP Keys Mechanical Wireless Keyboard and the mouse from the same series and talk some more about the advantages and disadvantages I have encountered in 6 months of using both devices.

πŸ€” Is it easy to set up and how is the connection?
The keyboard is very easy to set up, you just insert 2 AAA batteries (provided in the box) into the back and turn it on using the small switch on the right hand side. In my six months of using the keyboard, I have not had to change the batteries yet so the keyboard seems to have a decent battery life.

The first three keys to the right of the ESC key can be pressed to initiate the Bluetooth connection with a device. This works on many different devices and setup usually doesn’t take more than a few seconds before the keyboard is fully usable. You can pair the keyboard with up to three saved devices and seamlessly switch devices by pressing the corresponding connection button out of the three.
I noticed that the Bluetooth connection is very fast and reliable, the connection usually allows me to immediately unlock the PC using the keyboard after it boots.

πŸ€” How is the typing experience?
Typing on the keyboard is a very pleasant experience if you enjoy using mechanical, “clicky” keyboards. I do have a few issues at times with pressing more than one button at a time, even though I have small fingers. This does not happen with my other, flatter keyboard but I can honestly not say whether this is due to my skills (or lack thereof) or the keyboard.
The keyboard is slightly elevated in the back so typing is comfortable and does give you a hint of typewriter feel. The shape of the keys is definitely more for the visual effect rather than function, but they keys have a good, high-quality feel to them. The symbols on the keys are stickers, but they haven’t faded or moved at all in the six months I have had the keyboard.
The keyboard is heavy enough that it does not move while typing and generally has a sturdy and high-quality feel.

πŸ€” Are the customisable Emoji keys any good?
When I got the keyboard, I thought that the emoji keys were a funny gimmick but nothing I will be using in my daily use of the keyboard. To my surprise, I am using them quite frequently. The keyboard comes with these emojis pre-installed: πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜„πŸ˜‚ and an additional key that opens the emoji selection menu.
The following keys are in the box and you can exchange the pre-installed keys with them: πŸ”₯β€οΈπŸ‘πŸ™. The set also comes with a little bag to store your additional emoji keys.
If you do not use emojis in your digital communication, the keys are easy to ignore as they are on the side of the keyboard and don’t use up a lot of space.

πŸ€” Is it suitable for gaming?
I use the keyboard for both writing and gaming, and if you are generally comfortable using a mechanical keyboard with raised keys for this purpose. The response time is super fast and all the necessary keys are right there for you to use. If you are looking for a professional experience and e-sports level gaming, I don’t think it would surprise you to hear that there is more specialised gear out there that will support you better. But the keyboard is definitely suitable for casual gaming.

πŸ€”Is it portable?
The keyboard is not super big but it has a decent weight to it. While it is technically portable and usable on the go as a wireless device, I would not recommend this device if you need to travel with it regularly. The keyboard is much more suited for flexible use in the home.

πŸ€” Is it sustainable?
logitech claims that this model uses 20% post-consumer recycled plastic and is certified carbon neutral. The packaging of the keyboard contains no plastic, just cardboard and coated paper. Sustainability is definitely not the main selling point of the device, but if this is a device that you will be using long-term, it looks like logitech are at least trying a little bit to avoid unnecessary plastic use.

πŸ€” Would you recommend the keyboard after 6 months of use?
Yes! I think it is a very solid keyboard, all functions work like a charm and typing is a pleasant experience. If you are looking for a mechanical keyboard with a nice typing sound and a typewriter-like feel that will work seamlessly on different devices, the logitech POP Keys will be a good choice for you.

πŸ€” Is it easy to set up and how is the connection?
The mouse is as easy to set up as the keyboard. You can pair the device with up to three other devices via Bluetooth. Once the mouse is turned on, you can select one of the three channels with the button on the underside of the mouse. When it is connected to the device, the mouse works immediately. The connection is stable and the mouse works very smoothly.

πŸ€” How is the user experience?
I was personally struggling with the mouse because it does not offer much support for your hand at all. The middle of my hand starts to cramp up when using the mouse for longer periods of time and my hand and wrist position did not feel natural at all. The mouse is quite small and I have small hands, so the issues may even be worse if you have a bigger hand.
What I really enjoyed about the mouse is how quiet it is. You can hardly hear the clicks or the scroll wheel, which will be great if you work in shared environments or if you have sound sensitivities.

πŸ€” Is it suitable for gaming?
If you play a clicker game, your roommates and neighbours will thank you for using a quiet mouse. If you play pretty much anything else – no. The mouse is too uncomfortable to hold for longer gaming sessions and the lack of (customisable) keys does have a negative impact on possible use cases for gaming. The mouse is responsive and accurate, however, so if you are okay with the shape of the mouse and lack of buttons, you can use it for games too.

πŸ€”Is it portable?
The mouse is small, lightweight, has a good battery life and no cable connection so it is definitely portable.

πŸ€” Is it sustainable?
logitech claim that their mouse uses 29% post-consumer recycled material. Some of the other colour variants have a better recycling percentage than the Daydream variant. The packaging is fully made out of FSCβ„’-certified paper.

πŸ€” Would you recommend the mouse after 6 months of use?
I would not recommend this mouse. It is not a cheap mouse and while it does what it says on the tin, it lacks functionality and comfort. The only programmable button is the middle mouse button and even my small hand is struggling to hold the device comfortably. That being said, the mouse works as advertised and if you are happy with its form, features and price, you will not be unhappy with your purchase.
