Greetings, arcade aficionados and Lego lovers! Prepare to munch some colourful brick ghosts as LEGO and Bandai Namco bring a blast from the past in the form of a detailed recreation of our beloved 80’s arcade game. That’s right, it’s the new LEGO Icons PAC-MAN Arcade set!
On this very day in 1980, the gaming world was forever changed when Bandai Namco revealed the original PAC-MAN game in Japan. Over the years, PAC-MAN has become an icon, not only through the addictive gameplay, but also through appearances in TV shows, music, and other popular culture.
And if you’re curious about why PAC-MAN is yellow, here’s a fun fact. The designer of PAC-MAN, Mr. Iwatani, found inspiration in the iconic yellow of the LEGO brick. A delightful nugget of information shared through this unique collaboration between Bandai Namco and the LEGO Group!
Now let’s dive into what the new LEGO set brings us. It’s a spectacular design that embodies the original arcade version of PAC-MAN, including some of our favourite ghost munching moves. You can also build large, colourful brick versions of PAC-MAN, BLINKY, and CLYDE, which rotate on a base and can be proudly displayed on top of the cabinet or independently. There’s even a delightful little scene hidden inside the cabinet of a female minifigure playing PAC-MAN on an arcade.
And don’t worry, this set is not just for display. You can actually light up the coin-slot to make your arcade experience more authentic!
This PAC-MAN revival is down to the dedication and passion of LEGO Designer Sven Franic and his team, who meticulously captured the essence of the beloved PAC-MAN arcade machine in brick form.
Describing the process of designing the new set, Sven Franic, LEGO Designer comments: “A cultural icon for the past 40 years, it was a delight to bring PAC-MAN to brick life. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to bring classic gaming experiences to life. Our team of talented designers worked tirelessly to capture the essence of the beloved PAC-MAN arcade machine in brick form, from PAC-MAN himself to the colourful, maze-like environment he inhabits. Every detail was carefully considered and crafted, resulting in a one-of-a-kind LEGO creation that captures the magic of the original game while adding a playful new twist and a couple of Easter eggs – in true video game style. We are thrilled to share this incredible build with the world and cannot wait to see the joy it brings to fans of all ages.”
