In Los Angeles last night, the team behind Final Fantasy XVI held an event taking a deep dive into the world and gameplay of Final Fantasy XVI ahead of next weeks’ release. One of the headlines of the evening was the release of a new demo on Playstation 5 which is live at time of writing. The demo promises to take you through the opening chapter of Final Fantasy XVI, the prologue, as well as a special combat mode that will showcase protagonist Clive at a later point in the game when he gains more of his powers. The demo is intended to showcase the worldbuilding via the prologue, and highlight the way combat will blend magic, Eikonic abilities, and swordplay via the latter segment.
The demo features carryover progress – so you can pick up the main game where you left off after the prologue in the demo. Completing the prologue is necessary to unlock the battle mode, and according to Square Enix, should take you 2 to 3 hours to complete. Final Fantasy XVI releases on June 22nd 2023, and is available to pre-order in various editions.
