Yesterday, at the high-profile PlayStation Showcase, the gaming giant Square Enix dropped the exciting launch trailer for their latest creation, FINAL FANTASY XVI. The trailer, mysteriously titled ‘SALVATION’, is a dramatic preview of this highly anticipated action-RPG. Brace yourselves, folks – we’re less than a month away from the global release set for June 22nd, 2023, exclusively on PlayStation 5 consoles.
The trailer shows us the mesmerising realm of Valisthea, where we get a glimpse of the severe trials that the Bearers (those rare individuals with magic at their fingertips) must endure. It also reveals the truth behind the Mothercrystals, traditionally considered the source of blessings for humanity. We’re introduced to Clive Rosfield, the game’s protagonist, as he and his comrades strive to regain control of their destiny.
Set in the unique universe of Final Fantasy, XVI delivers an all-new dark and epic fantasy narrative that unfolds in Valisthea, a world basking in the light of the Mothercrystals. However, tranquillity is fading as a deadly affliction, the Blight, threatens to devastate their dominions. The fate of Valisthea rests in the hands of mighty beasts called Eikons and their Dominants, individuals blessed with the power to summon and command them.
Our main man Clive is known as the “First Shield of Rosaria”, a warrior tasked with the protection of his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. However, things go pear-shaped, and Clive finds himself entangled in a devastating tragedy, vowing revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a harbinger of catastrophe.
Raising the bar for the franchise, Final Fantasy XVI is rated M (Mature), and it promises to continue the 35-year tradition of entrancing players worldwide with captivating role-playing adventures. It brings impressive visuals, inventive worlds, rich stories, memorable characters, and innovative gameplay. Final Fantasy XVI will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 5 console on June 22, 2023.
