Brace yourselves as Games Workshop® and Frontier Developments are joining forces to present the next big thing in RTS gaming: Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin. This grandiose gaming spectacle is coming soon to PlayStation® 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Set in the sprawling, brutal fantasy universe of Age of Sigmar, this upcoming strategy game promises an exhilarating journey for gamers. Drawing from the vibrant lore of Games Workshop’s beloved tabletop game, you’ll be swept into the savage Realm of Beasts. The challenge? Establish a fortress amidst chaos, defend against brutal enemies, and wage a merciless campaign of conquest.
Frontier Developments say Realms of Ruin isn’t your average RTS game. You won’t be just a commander observing from a bird’s-eye view. You’ll be neck-deep in the dynamic real-time battles, navigating four unique factions in both singleplayer campaign and 1v1 and 2v2 cross-platform online multiplayer modes.
The game unfolds in Ghur, the Realm of Beasts, a realm as inhospitable as it is captivating. Here, you’ll lead the Stormcast Eternals, celestial champions sent to reclaim this wild land from the menacing Orruk faction, the Kruleboyz. Following a story co-written with Black Library author Gavin Thorpe, you’ll dive into a twisted cinematic tale of desperate survival based on the Dawnbringer Crusades from the tabletop game’s most recent edition.
One feature that sets Realms of Ruin apart is the innovative DirectStep™ real-time strategy interface for players using a controller. A few simple button presses let you cycle through your squads, issue orders, and engage the enemy with the same level of immediacy you’d get from a mouse and keyboard. But don’t worry, PC purists! There’s still a traditional mouse and keyboard control scheme that’ll make you feel right at home.
In Realms of Ruin, no two battles are the same. With four playable factions that each boast their own unique strategies and aesthetic styles, you’ll command a diverse range of units – from swift flyers to mighty wizards. And the battlefield itself? Teeming with wild, living foliage and environmental obstacles, it’s a strategic dream and a sight to behold.
Frontier Developments have also said the authenticity of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin will astound you. Every unit is painstakingly modelled on their tabletop counterparts, immersing you in a dramatically animated, visually breathtaking Age of Sigmar universe. Prepare to be captivated by the world-class animation and state-of-the-art graphical fidelity.
