The Indie Houses, a remarkable collective of indie publishers across the globe, have just kicked off their second digital event on Steam. This time, they’re partnering up with Girls Make Games to throw a weeklong party celebrating women in the industry.
Running from May 25 to May 31, The Indie Houses Steam Event is placing women in gaming firmly in the spotlight, presenting a dazzling array of over 60 games with female-driven development teams and/or leading ladies. This virtual festival is about much more than just demo playthroughs and discounts. It’s about inspiring the next generation of game creators, with a section dedicated to showcasing the work of Girls Make Games.
If you’re not familiar with Girls Make Games, this incredible initiative has been creating opportunities for girls and non-binary students to plunge into the gaming world since 2014. They’ve achieved this through educational summer camps, workshops, and more, reaching over 23,000 students in nearly 150 cities across 20 countries. Quite a feat, wouldn’t you agree?
A notable component of the Steam Event is its charitable backbone. A portion of the profits from each publisher’s games during the event will go to the Girls Make Games Scholarship Fund (GMGSF). GMGSF is doing some fantastic work, providing both professional development and financial aid to ensure underrepresented students can access STEAM programs from an early age.
