Alkemi announced the release of their most recent project in Early Access. An Ankou, a roguelike inspired by French folklore, is set to launch on the 17th of August 2023 on Steam. A free demo is currently available if you would like to try out the game before buying it.
Death is not the end in An Ankou. Become a servant of death and guide spirits to their final rest. You can explore the environments to gather resources, craft powerful weapons, and use them to slay demons so you can collect the souls you need. The map is very open and emphasises exploration and scavenging. Random events and optional challenges reward replayability as every run feels unique.
Players can choose from multiple professions for the Ankou, with distinctly different skills and items. Every run will have slightly different tools and abilities, resembling the human your Ankou once was.
There are multiple game modes available with playtimes ranging from 15 minutes up to 1 hour. Objectives can be tackled at a pace that suits the player so you get a lot of control over the difficulty level of your game. Players can also choose between a variety of control schemes to suit their needs and preferences.
An Ankou has a roadmap for updates so players always know what comes next and when the updates will be implemented. These are the changes that are planned for 2023:
